“1984” by George Orwell

5 stars

According to Amazon, 1984 has become a best-seller again. When the dystopian book was written in the 1940s, Orwell conceived of a society in which “Big Brother” was privy to every aspect of life. This view is a now a reality. Many believe Orwell’s masterpiece to be representative of American society today. The endless “Newspeak” described by Orwell as a way to propagandize beliefs and policy seems now a common thread through media channels. One has only to watch Fox News or CNN to understand Orwell’s ideas. This novel is a must-read today.
