Placing Reserves or Renewing Items

Renewing Checked-Out Items

Sometimes you need a little more time to finish up the last chapter in a book, or to watch the last episode of your favorite TV Season.  To extend the time you have an item checked out, follow these steps:

  • Click on MY ACCOUNT from the homepage of HWPL.org (Or the right hand column of this page)
  • Enter your Library Barcode, located on the back of your library card
  • Next enter your PIN.  (At first setup the PIN will be the last 4 digits of the telephone number on file with HWPL)
    • The first time you go into MY ACCOUNT, you will be asked to create your own Personal Identification number (PIN). You will be asked to re-enter the PIN to confirm it.
  • Click on LOGIN
  • This is a list of your holds.  Click on Checkouts from the left column.
  • You will see a list of your checked out items.  Click the box next to the item you’d like to renew and click the RENEW MARKED button.  (Or click on RENEW ALL to renew all checked out items.)
  • The page will update to display which items were renewed and their due dates.  Not every item is renewable.

 

Reserving An Item

In the event HWPL doesn’t have an item on the shelves, there is a waiting list, or you’re in a rush and you’d just like to have your books waiting for you at the Circulation Desk, follow these steps to place requests for an item:

  • To reserve an item, first perform an Encore catalog search from our homepage.
  • Once you’ve found the title you’re looking for click the REQUEST IT button to the right of the title.
  • Enter your Library Barcode, located on the back of your library card
  • Next enter your PIN.  (At first setup the PIN will be the last 4 digits of the telephone number on file with HWPL)
    • The first time you go into MY ACCOUNT, you will be asked to create your own Personal Identification number (PIN). You will be asked to re-enter the PIN to confirm it.
  • Click on LOGIN
  • Once you click the SUBMIT button, your reserve has been placed and HWPL will contact you when the item is ready for pickup.

 

Adding Contact Information to Encore

One of the Encore catalog’s features are the ability to send e-mail and text notifications when a reserved item has arrived at HWPL, to alert you of an upcoming due date, or to notify you when one of your items is overdue.  To add these features to your account, follow these steps:

  • Click on MY ACCOUNT from the homepage of HWPL.org (Or the right hand column of this page)
  • Enter your Library Barcode, located on the back of your library card
  • Next enter your PIN.  (At first setup the PIN will be the last 4 digits of the telephone number on file with HWPL)
    • The first time you go into MY ACCOUNT, you will be asked to create your own Personal Identification number (PIN). You will be asked to re-enter the PIN to confirm it.
  • Click on LOGIN
  • Click the EDIT ACCOUNT button under your name, a new window will pop up.
  • From here you can enter your e-mail address for courtesy and overdue notices, as well as opt into text message alerts via SMS.
  • When you’ve added your information click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page.
